My Entrepreneurship Story
For this assignment I was asked to share a time where I had an entrepreneurial experience. In honesty it was quite hard to think of a single one, because I believe that since I was little I have been sort of entrepreneur. To tell you a little bit about my story, my name is Alexander Sanchez, I was born in Miami FL, but resided most of my life in Caracas, Venezuela.
For those who do not know, Venezuela has been experiencing the highest inflation in the world for some time now. Everything is scarce and people have to resort to buying things either at an extremely high price, or to import it. Long story short, people take advantages of such opportunities, and as a result you are instinctively drawn to bargains, always seeking better prices because of people’s limited income.
When I was living in Miami, my school was located in Doral an area with a large concentration of Hispanics. Me being a hustler would buy candies at Costco and sell them for .25c each or even do deals depending on the amount of candies someone would want to buy. I did all this while helping my oldest brother run a door-to-door shipping company. In this company I was in charge of receiving, repackaging, and labeling. This lead me to want to know more of the logistics of how can a person save money on shipping or seek better deals.
After some time in the US and before moving to Gainesville I would scout Walmart, Target, Best-buy and shopping centers looking for items that were marked lower. A good tip to know is that some stores have specific barcodes when pricing down items. Usually there is a specific two digit that is the lowest that an item will be priced down (The most common is the barcode number ending in 97).
After moving to Gainesville I was left to fend for myself, so my course of action up until this last semester was to receive my financial aid money, check alibaba or AliExpress, do the numbers with the items shipped to my front door and re-sell them. Some good examples were internet tv boxes, office supplies, barcode scanners, cases for phones, pop-sockets.
So yes this is a little story about me. I am still pursuing other interests as well but I do definitively enjoy entrepreneurship. I always like to see the solution to a problem, or see how can I make something better, more cost effective.
Below im attaching an example of finding a good deal. This was in the target of standard.
Because they were not able to sell the inventory at regular price they marked it down as low as possible before eventually having to ship it back to the distributor
